I first made this type of bowl for Christmas and birthday gifts for friends and family. I used classic vintage lace crochet to create texture in the surface of this little bird shaped pottery bowl. I used my own pared down, modern design for the shape, and hope that the mixing of these two elements will have created a design that stands the test of time. I love working with ceramics and clay, and the creamy clay I used here is one of my favourites - it has just the right amount of texture, making it tactile when fired. I hope you'll love it too!

As featured in the Guardian online gift guide! These handmade ceramic bowls have been really popular as birthday gifts.
I pressed vintage lace into soft clay to create intricate pattern and texture in the surface of this little bird shaped pottery bowl, and added deep ruby wine red glaze to the imprints.
The underside is unglazed with a little fabric texture.
There are many uses for the little bird. Keep it by your bed to keep earrings safe, use it as a little soap dish or put a little candle in it at night.
The colour and texture inside are so pretty you might decide to keep it empty for decoration.
It measures approx 3.5 x 4 inches and is 1.25 inches tall.

Although I have made a couple of these, the one you will receive is unique, and is the one pictured in the main image.
