I love kimonos and am fascinated by the fact that a whole kimono is constructed from just one roll of fabric called a silk bolt or 'tanmono'. It is an exact length and width and nothing gets wasted. This in turn denotes the finished size of my cushions! (No kimonos were injured during the making of this cushion - all fabric is taken from damaged and un-weareable kimono!

Full description

A really stunning cushion, quite bohemian in feel, hand made with hand-embroidered vintage kimono silk. The waves are beautifully and effectively depicted in metallic thread in tones of grey, slate grey, aqua and mauve on a pale peach / nude background. The reverse of the cushion is covered in a beautiful subtle magnolia vintage kimono silk sateen.

The cloth has been taken from a rare and genuine lady's kimono dating from around the 1950's. The kimono has been carefully unpicked and I have chosen particular details in the cloth to look good as a cushion. There is more than one cushion available but the pattern does differ slightly.

I hope you can display and enjoy this cushion as if a beautiful work of art or sculpture. Much of the cloth I use is hand embroidered or hand-printed and I think this is a wonderful way of preserving such an ancient and revered craft.
