Full description

A lovely natural and rustic Crinoid Fossil specimen, ideal for display as it is, or for use in a crafting project, such as mounting in a picture or making the centre piece in a mosaic.

The fossil is still within the natural rock, which is flatter on the back &more domed on the front surface, where you can see the lengths of Crinoid fossil stems displayed.

Crinoids, also known as sea lilies, or feather-stars, are marine animals that are still found in our seas & oceans today, but have been around for over 500 million years! They live both in shallow water & in depths as great as 6,000 meters.

The dimensions of this wonderful specimen is that it measures approx 6cms in length, approx 4cms in width at its widest point near the base of the fossil & with a depth of approx 1.5ms at its thickest point. It is roughly triangular in shape.

The colours range from silvery grey, through to deep charcoal grey, to black.

A real testament to longevity & would make a wonderful gift for a long term friendship, a token of everlasting love or just something wonderful for budding geologists or fossil hunters!

It was located during one of our many family fossil hunting trips, and was one of the best finds that day. I have worked the piece slightly, after retrieving it from the ground, it need a little work to remove extraneous rock, debris and removal of overly sharp edges, but otherwise has been left as near to possible as it was found.
