Full description
As a practising therapist, I know that tactile, comforting objects can serve as wonderful 'anchors' in our living spaces. Elephants are universal symbols of quiet strength, wisdom, patience, and loyalty-gentle qualities that are lovely to be reminded of when life feels busy or demanding.
I discovered these charming vintage elephants at an antiques fair in Norfolk and instantly fell in love with their character. Originally created as tea light holders, each one has been given a new, practical life as a unique, one-of-a-kind pin cushion.
This particular elephant features a hand-painted turquoise saddle and ceremonial head cover. To complement the artisanal details, I hand-sewed the pin cushion cushion using a delicate Japanese floral print fabric, creating a satisfying harmony of colour and texture. The piece has a lovely, solid weight to it, keeping it steady on your work table or bedside cabinet.
