Full description
Dainty necklace featuring a 10mm Mother-of-Pearl focal bead in the shape of a butterfly, set between trios of 8x5mm Mother of Pearl Ovals separated by 2mm faceted A grade blue Apatite beads highlighted with tiny sterling silver spacers.
The necklace graduates to rows of five 4mm Mother-of-Pearl separated by 2mm faceted A grade Crystal Quartz and 1.8mm sterling silver beads.
It fastens with a sterling silver toggle clasp.
The butterfly has a delicate, creamy white colour and excellent lustre.
Mother of Pearl is the name given to the lining or nacre of mollusc shells, a unique combination of minerals secreted by molluscs that have a width similar to light waves, which gives the nacre an iridescent, shimmering sheen.
It is the same material the mollusc uses to create Pearls.
Like Pearl, it is a birthstone for June, the 30th wedding anniversary and a popular choice for wedding jewellery.
The Apatite beads add a pop of 'something blue' to the piece.
In ancient times, butterflies were believed to be messengers from the spirit world and were used as a symbol of long life, rebirth and transition.
The butterfly is commonly used in Chinese symbolism to represent joy and warmth.
The Romans associated butterflies with wedded bliss.
