Full description
Scots Bonnet, hand knitted in pure Shetland Wool then felted to keep out much of the wind and rain
The colour is Moss Green with fibres of other greens running through the length of the yarn
In 16th and 17th and 18th Century Scotland to achieve this green was difficult, Dyes were derived from plants such as nettles, buckthorn plants. leeks and green ferns- but these greens faded in time. A more lasting green was obtained by dying wool blue with woad then yellow with yellow weeds.
It is thought in areas where spagnum moss was available, it too was used to obtain that spagnum green colour,
Once the weeds were gathered and processed to extract the dye - the dye was then applied to the wool in a dye bath
The bonnet is knitted to fit:-
Head Circumference - 56-61cms (22-24")
The outer width of the bonnet is 31cms (12") Wide and 30cms (11 1/2") Long
As this bonnet is pure wool - Hand washing only is recommended but full laundry instructions are enclosed with the purchase
Although every effort is made to ensure the colour in the photographs is accurate, colours can vary when posted on the internet
