This piece began with the contrast: bright, abstract flowers and leaves dancing across a dark background, like a garden border just after dusk when colours deepen and small details stand out. Adding a row of embroidered tulips felt like planting a tiny, orderly line of blooms within the lively scatter — a quiet nod to the rhythm of a garden path.
Pairing this night‑garden print with the calming scent of lavender and hops created a soothing balance: a dark, restful palette wrapped around a fragrant centre designed to help the mind settle.
This design is also part of my zero‑waste making practice. The inner pouch is sewn from soft, tough cotton salvaged from an old judo gi, giving new life to a material that still had plenty of strength and purpose left in it.
Safety information
Some people may have an allergy or sensitivity to lavender or hops. If you know you react to either plant, this product is not suitable for you. People with respiratory conditions can also be sensitive to strong fragrances, so it is important to use the pillow with care and discontinue use if the scent feels overwhelming or uncomfortable. Lavender and hop pillows can leave a gentle scent on bedding. This is normal for natural botanicals. Hops also contain a fine yellow pollen that may stain the inner pouch over time. The inner bag is enclosed within the outer pillow to help protect bedding and to keep the botanical mix contained. The pillow is not a toy and should be kept out of reach of young children and pets. The outer fabric is not waterproof.

This lavender and hop sleep aid bag is made from a dark background fabric scattered with small bunches of abstract flowers and leaves — tiny shapes in bright colours that seem to glow gently against the deeper tones. Along the top front edge, I’ve added a line of machine embroidered tulips, giving the piece a soft, textural detail that feels both playful and peaceful.
Inside is an inner pouch filled with dried lavender and hops harvested from my garden this summer. This traditional botanical blend has been used for centuries to encourage relaxation and ease the mind before sleep. Rest the bag beside or under your pillow to enjoy the gentle, sleepy scent as you drift off. While it isn’t a guaranteed sleep remedy, I’ve found the fragrance comforting and it has helped soften my own insomnia.
Hops naturally contain a yellow pollen that may stain the inner pouch, which is why each one is enclosed inside an outer fabric bag — protecting your bedding and giving me the chance to use some characterful fabrics.
