These butterflies were inspired by the way real wings catch the light when they tilt and move. The idea of creating a three‑dimensional form came from wanting to capture that sense of lift — the moment a butterfly pauses before taking flight. Reflexing the wings gives each piece a gentle, lifelike curve, and choosing the glass becomes a joyful part of the process: streaks, swirls and translucent patches create a shimmer that feels almost alive.
Working in the Tiffany method allows the shape to develop slowly and intentionally. Each wing is cut and foiled by hand, then soldered into a form that stands away from the body, giving the butterfly depth and presence. Seeing them glow in the sun — whether in a garden on a calm day or in a bright window — is a reminder of how small handmade pieces can bring a moment of colour and delight into everyday spaces.
Safety information
This item is glass and therefore breakable. Please handle with care and secure the item to a fixed point. All edges have been ground to remove sharpness. Consider how you display the glass and that it is in a safe location away from wagging dog tails or small hands! Lead solder has been used but this is very low risk. However, I always wash my hands after handling to reduce the risk to zero.

Full description
This listing is for one stained glass three dimensional butterfly suncatcher with gently reflexed wings. The layered shape gives the butterfly a sense of movement, adding a novel and eye catching touch to a summer garden or a bright indoor window.
The finished piece measures approximately 13 cm high by 14 cm wide, including the hanging hook. There is a single hook at the top, and for outdoor use it is recommended that you secure it at two points to keep it stable in the breeze.
Each butterfly is made using the traditional Tiffany foiled glass method. Every piece of glass is hand cut, edged with copper foil, soldered and cleaned, and sometimes finished with patina. Craft glass naturally contains tiny textures and variations, making every butterfly unique. The colours shown in the photographs are as accurate as possible.
These butterflies look beautiful outdoors on dry, sunny, calm days, but they should be brought inside at night and during poor weather to prevent damage. Indoors, they make a lovely window decoration where the wings can catch the light safely. This item is not a toy and should be placed securely to avoid breakage.
Price is for the glass item only.
Postage cost is for 48-hour, second class medium parcel tracked delivery. Due to their shape I have had to charge for a medium parcel rather than a small parcel - any postage costs in excess of postage will be returned.
