This artwork is inspired by the lapwings who tumble and call 'peewee' in the skies over the fields around the village where I live in East Yorkshire. I used to see huge flocks of lapwings when I was a child in Lincolnshire and I still love to see and hear the lapwings in the fields and in the skies near my home.
Did you know that lapwings eggs may have been the original Easter eggs..? As ground-nesting birds, it was thought their eggs belonged to the Easter hare!

Full description
This hand-drawn lapwing art print celebrates one of Britain’s most evocative birds - a companion of wide skies, wet fields, and the turning seasons. I drew this piece with thoughts of early spring, open landscapes, and the quiet resilience of birds who return year after year to the same fields.
The lapwing’s distinctive movement and presence feel deeply tied to memory and place, and this artwork is intended as a gentle reminder of connection, continuity, and the beauty of the in-between seasons.
