Full description

Hawthorn hare.

This one-of-a-kind Hare Marotte is a contemporary folk art piece inspired by mediaeval jester’s marottes, Imbolc, and the deep-rooted symbolism of the hare in Celtic and pagan folklore.

Entirely handmade from start to finish, the hare’s head needle-felted, giving it a soft yet lifelike presence. The hare, long associated with liminality, rebirth, and the returning light, stands here as a guardian figure between winter and spring. It is a messenger between worlds.

The collar and adornments draw from seasonal and ritual imagery: green tones for renewal, natural textures, bells and charms that reference witchcraft, medieval fool traditions, warding objects, and ceremonial sound.

The wooden handle grounds the piece, transforming it from decorative object into something that feels talismanic.

A small hanging bottle containing dried snowdrops nods to folk magic, seasonal rites, and the quiet rituals of Imbolc.

This marotte can be displayed as:

A wall-hung folk art sculpture

A seasonal altar or Imbolc decoration

A theatrical or storytelling prop

A collector’s piece and heirloom object.

Total height 23 inches
