This ink is inspired by the small rituals of childhood in Hong Kong:
walking with parents into the hillside woodlands, searching for bright orange gardenia seeds hidden between leaves. We would split them open, rub the golden pigment between our fingers, and use it as paint — the simplest form of creativity, directly from nature.
Gardenia carries a double meaning in my practice:
it is both colour and comfort.
A plant we drank as herbal tea when stressed or overheated, a flower used for relaxation and healing, and a pigment used to make our first marks on paper.
When I create Gardenia Ink today, I feel connected to that heritage — to the smell of the woods, the warmth of the yellow dye, and the gentle care of a past generation who knew the land intimately.
This ink is a tribute to those memories.

Introducing Gardenia Ink, a luminous golden-yellow pigment handcrafted from the seeds of the gardenia fruit — one of the Eight Fragrant Flowers celebrated throughout Asian history for its scent, beauty, and healing qualities.
In Hong Kong, gardenia holds a tender place in everyday culture. Many parents and grandparents once walked into nearby woodlands to collect gardenia fruits, using their richly coloured seeds to create natural dyes for drawing, school projects, and festive decorations. The colour — a soft, bright yellow — has long been loved for its purity and natural warmth.
Gardenia seeds are also traditionally used in herbal tea to calm the mind, soothe heat in the body, and reduce inflammation. This ink honours both the artistic and medicinal heritage of gardenia, transforming a familiar household plant into a contemporary creative material.
Each batch is slowly extracted, filtered, and hand-bottled.
Preserved with essential oils to prevent mould and extend the life of the ink. Shake gently before uses.as with all botanical inks, colour may vary slightly due to seasonal differences in the plant. Please store your ink out of sunlight and under dry cool conditions
