Nephrite jade's name is derived from ‘lapis nephriticus’ which is Latin for ‘stone of the kidneys’ and is often thought to bring a deep sense of peace, strength and balance to the wearer.
One of the two minerals classed as jade (the other being jadeite itself), nephrite is most commonly found in shades of pale to dark green.
Here in this pendant, the lighter green looks as though it's mixed with black however these inclusions are actually an extremely dark green pigment that's naturally present in the jade boulder, which look black to the naked eye.

Full description
Two little sterling silver wire spirals sit on top of this nephrite square, coiled to make an S shape over the bail of the pendant, and it's suspended from a dainty 925 sterling silver cable chain. On the end of the extender chain is a tiny cube of green Burmese jadeite, chosen as its colour very nearly matches the nephrite square, so this pendant has two types of jade for the price of one!
