Langley Woods is a favourite place to walk, and I immediately fell in love with the twisting trees which I later discovered were hornbeams. The patterns on the bark attracted my attention, with the twisting shapes that reminded me of Celtic plats and knots. Later I discovered that the hornbeams were possibly the inspiration. The woods has a fairy tale quality, both light and dark. There's elements of fantasy with the trees twisting into all sorts of unusual shapes and figures. It reminds me of the fantasy stories and illustrations of my childhood.

Full description

A detailed and quirky watercolour of a hornbeam tree and its twisted roots, growing new shoots in an unusual way, painted by Charlotte M Gardner. Inspired by the ancient Langley Woods in Sandridge, famed for it's wild flowers including anemones and bluebells that surround the twisting hornbeam trees. The card is blank inside, so can be used for multiple purposes. Perfect for special occasions or simply to write a letter or thank you note.
