This design was inspired by the idea of contrast and balance—how light and dark, rustic and modern, can exist together in harmony. The two grooves cut into the wood were shaped to create rhythm and separation, like quiet lines that divide the story of the piece.
By painting the lower section black, I wanted to ground the form with strength and simplicity. Above, the dark oak stain and wax highlight the reclaimed pine’s natural grain, allowing the warmth of the wood to shine through. Together, the two finishes play off each other, creating depth and a layered elegance.
These tealight holders celebrate transformation: from humble pallet wood to a design that feels both earthy and contemporary, each one a reminder that contrast can bring out the best in both elements.

Full description
These handcrafted tealight holders are made from upcycled pine pallet blocks, designed with thoughtful detailing and a modern twist. Each block features two horizontal grooves cut into the bottom third— the upper groove wider than the lower—creating depth and visual interest.
The area below the first groove is painted black, providing a bold, contemporary contrast, while the section above the first groove is stained with dark oak and finished with dark oak wax, highlighting the natural grain and warmth of the reclaimed pine. This combination of paint and stain gives the holder a striking, layered look that blends rustic charm with modern design.
Perfect for tealights, these holders add character to shelves, mantels, or tables, making each piece both decorative and functional.
