This piece was inspired by the beauty of contrast—the meeting of the refined and the raw. When working with this mango wood pallet block, I chose to keep the bark inclusion running across the top, right beside the candle cup. Instead of removing it, I saw it as a reminder of the tree’s natural form and story.
The smooth finish of the mango wood, with its warm tones and subtle grain, sits in harmony with the rugged strips of bark. Together, they create a balance between craftsmanship and untouched nature. By shaping it into a tealight holder for large candles, I wanted the soft glow of the flame to highlight that contrast—illuminating both the polish of the finished wood and the honesty of the bark’s texture.
