Spun Cotton is a vintage folk craft technique originating in Germany in the mid 19th century. It takes several days to layer and shape the cotton over a wire armature and then let the piece dry naturally. The spun cotton is then hand painted. The art is slow and fiddly but the outcome is rewardingly beautiful.

Full description

Handmade miniature art doll with glass eyes. This water leaper is slowly made from spun cotton with wire armature and cotton fabric wings. Creature is hand painted with large eyes and sharp little teeth. This monster has a rosy bottom, lizard like tail and two tone, wired wings. The wings can be gently bent and posed into your desired position. The monster is decorated with little spots and comes with a complimentary green waxed thread hanger.

Water Leaper measures roughly 9cm tall. This is for decorative purposes only and not a toy. Sent in recycled or recyclable packaging.

The llamhigyn y dŵr (Welsh for "Water Leaper") is a creature from Welsh folklore that resembles a giant frog or toad with bat-like wings and a long, lizard-like tail. It inhabits swamps, lakes, and ponds, using its wings to leap across the water's surface. This malicious, carnivorous creature is known for preying on livestock and fishermen, snapping fishing lines, and dragging victims to their deaths by their legs and fishing rods.
