The birthstones for October and Libra are Opal and Tourmaline.
Pink Opal is a variety of Common Opal, an opaque stone without the 'fire' of Precious Opal.
The Pink Opals of Peru are highly regarded for their rich, saturated, uniform colour.
It is a hydrated silica, meaning it has a water content of 6-10%, and should not be given lengthy exposure to sunlight as this can cause the stone to dry out and crack.
In ancient Egypt Pink Opal was regarded as a symbol of hope, while in ancient Greece it was thought to bring spiritual awakening and connect the wearer to the Gods.
It is thought to calm the anxious, soothe away stress, inspire empathy and forgiveness and balance the emotions.

Dainty beaded necklace with a mix of tiny 2.25 AA grade Pink Opal cube beads, 3mm faceted Pink Opal round beads and 1.8mm rose gold vermeil spacers.
As a centrepiece I have added a beautiful, wire wrapped, 8x12mm AA grade Pink Opal teardrop pendant.
The cubes pf Pink Opal are a delicate pastel shade, the faceted round beads are a mix of white and pink with some natural grey mineral inclusions and a subtle glint.
The opaque teardrop is natural Peruvian Pink Opal, with a beautiful, rich, coral pink hue.
Rose gold vermeil is sterling silver that has been plated with rose gold.
Fastens with a rose gold plated toggle clasp.
Handmade in my home workshop here in beautiful Devon in the UK, this would make a wonderful gift for a birthday, anniversary or as a special treat for yourself.
Particularly suited as an October birthday present, as Opal is the birthstone for October and Libra.
It is also the stone for the 24th wedding anniversary.
This delicate necklace measures approximately 16.5 inches (42cm), excluding the teardrop pendant.
Your necklace will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a pretty organza gift bag.
