I love the tactile nature of Whitby Jet, and its intense black colour;
I was inspired to make this design by the rugged cliff side seams of Jet that were mined in Victorian times. Leaving the head of the ring in its natural rugged state, I wanted to enhance the structure with embedded pearls for contrast.

This ring I hand carved from Whitby Jet. The head of the ring has been left au naturel and set with seed pearls for enhancement and to create a striking and unique piece.
The ring is a small fit, UK size K.
Jet can be found in areas around the world, but Whitby Jet is known as the finest, and the only jet of suitable quality for use in jewellery. It measures 2.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale of hardness. As this ring is completely created solely from jet it is suitable for occasion wear with care.
