This sculpture of a handsome mute swan flying has been needle felted using woollen fibres. White woollen fibres have been sculpted using a barbed felting needle which binds the fibres together and shapes the body The feet, made from air dry clay have been coloured and attached using wire covered in woollen fibres to create the legs. The wings have been cut from a piece of hand made flat felt, the leading edge has been wired allowing the wings to be gently posed as required. Finally, the beak is made using silk clay , hand coloured to add the appropriate markings and attached to the head. Small black beads have been added for the eyes.
The swan has been mounted using a thin perspex rod on an oval wooden base covered with handmade blue felt overlaid with silk fibres to simulate water.
