Breathing beads are a beautiful blend of mindfulness tool and tactile accessory, designed to help you slow down, center yourself, and reconnect with your breath. They are formed by a string of beads and cord to be used to guide and anchor deep, intentional breathing. Hold them, trace each bead and follow the breathing pattern to calm anxiety and focus your mind. They can be carried anywhere—in your pocket or attached to a bag, purse or keys. I even attach mine to my walking stick! Just unclip and breathe during moments of stress or overwhelm. Moving your fingers bead by bead helps ground your attention and calm racing thoughts and when used regularly, can help regulate emotions, reduce anxiety, and promote a sense of stillness in your day.
How:
Inhale through your nose for a count of 5, moving your fingers over the first 5 beads & then pause briefly when your fingers reach the cord. Exhale for a count of 5 moving your fingers over the 2nd group of 5 beads - repeat this cycle several times.
This technique aims to synchronise breathing with the body's natural resonance frequency, leading to a more balanced autonomic nervous system and reduced stress. The slow and steady breaths result in 5-7 breaths per minute, optimising heart rate variability.
