The word mathom comes from old English meaning a treasure or precious thing. It was employed by J R R Tolkien, and I like to think of it as a way to describe objects whose attraction or power lies purely in their shape or form, rather than any particular use.

Full description
Inspired by ideas of jewellery that is worn as a charm or amulet, this mathom pendant features an organic-shaped silver tag and a tiny molten silver hagstone or pebble. Both have been carefully crafted from 100% recycled sterling silver using traditional silversmithing techniques.
The tag is textured all over, and has been polished with a brass brush to give the silver a gentle glow rather than a bright shine.
Dimensions - tag approx 20 x 14mm; pebble approx 6mm
Chain - 18 inch recycled sterling silver belcher chain
All the silver I use is 100% recycled scrap silver from a reputable supplier, which is fully traceable and exactly the same quality and purity as unrecycled silver. It has been recovered from the jewellery trade and IT and medical sectors. This avoids the unnecessary negative environmental impact of mining for new silver.
Mathoms make perfect gifts for anyone who loves unusual, contemporary jewellery with a story or meaning. They can also be given as little tokens of love or for luck.
Presented in a little branded eco-friendly gift box and recycled tissue paper - ready to give as a gift or to keep for yourself!
