"Cosmology 2" Relief Sculpture.
A relief sculpture in reclaimed wood, coloured with wood stains and inks, decorated with real 24ct. gold leaf.
Size: 12.25" x 9.75" x 1" (31cm x 25cm x 2.5cm)
The central image is carved from hardwood originally from an early 20th century dance hall in Lichfield, Staffordshire. The hall was flooded out and the flooring lifted. I was given a lot of the pieces to see if I could re-use them in a respectful way.
The image is a central labyrinth flanked by two figures.
It suggests a world and its creators, or the process of creation and manifestation.
There are references to medieval art and manuscript illumination.
These central panels are set into a deeply moulded pine wood frame.
Easy to hang on a wall comes with mirror clips.
The gold leaf will catch the light in interesting ways and add an enlivening element to any space, whether large or small.
Title and signature are on the back. A unique, one-off original work.
