Full description
The cover of this sketchbook is an original cyanotype print.
I love to experiment with different papers when I am creating cyanotype prints. And this paper is a whole new experience for me. It's .... wait for it ... teabag paper ... which is very fine, but also strong. Tie dying paper is not usually something you’d do, because it’s usually too fragile to be manipulated this way, especially when it’s damp. But tea bag paper is actually designed to be strong when it’s wet, perfect for tie-dye cyanotype prints.
It's a great way for me to use up the little bits of thread that are left over from book binding.
Cyanotype printing is a wonderful form of alternative photography, where you use the sun’s UV rays to develop the print. I sometimes add some extra ingredients … for this journal, I used salt in the wet cyanotype developing process, because this gives a wonderful crystalising effect.
I also used some Bouquet D’Antan pink ink which adds a gorgeous colour contrast.
The cover print is backed with Chinese Rice paper and cartridge paper.
This book has 20 pages (40 sides) 150gsm Deckle Edge Handmade Paper, which has a gorgeous texture.
The sketchbook is A5 size – approximately 5.8 x 8.3 inches.
It's the perfect gift for the artist in your life.
