Sometimes we can wander in the woods and be completely lost in our thoughts, oblivious to everything around us. However, if you look closely, there are numerous tiny worlds and details: cascading star-shaped moss, tiny elf cups, oak apples, ferns ready to unfurl... but a favourite of mine is the twisted, tangled world of lichen. I love the shapes it produces, like a tangled mass of hair or a bird's nest.
Some of the little tufts have found their way back home with me, and it's from one of these that I created this pendant. For me, there's a timelessness and strange wisdom to lichen, as if it's been there for a thousand years.
I'm so pleased with how this turned out; the jagged branches are reminiscent of lightning.
Despite having been creating these for a while now, the alchemy of transforming a piece of nature into solid silver never escapes me and never seems any less magical.

Full description
This silver necklace was made from lichen foraged from the woods close to my home, on the edge of my village in Berkshire. The wild, twisted nature of lichen creates a wonderfully abstract-looking pendant.
All my pendants are handmade from silver clay, using real leaves, lichen, pine cones, etc (whatever the subject happens to be). I create a mould of the leaf to capture every detail. Silver clay is then pressed into the mould before being dried, sanded, fired and polished.
I added a patina to the pendant to bring out every intricate detail of the lichen. It was then polished lightly to create a soft, slightly satin finish.
Each pendant is handcrafted and unique, capturing and preserving a moment in nature.
All pendants are attached by sterling silver jump ring to an 18 inch sterling silver chain (see photo of boxed pendant).
Pendants are posted the same or next business day using Royal Mail Tracked 48 delivery (no signature required). FREE delivery.
Items are carefully and beautifully packaged in eco-friendly, recyclable cardboard necklace boxes, protected by a larger, letterbox friendly box.
