Full description
In this handmade fused glass bowl, I fused two circles of opaline glass to form the base. Hand-cut templates were used to create the part of each flower and leaf by sifting glass powders onto a kiln shelve through the templates and firing. This gave fragile, delicate wafers of glass. Next, the different sections of the flowers were again fired together to make a complete flower. Leaves and flowers were fused to the back of the base before more flowers and leaves were tack-fused with a sprinkling of frit to give each piece a 3D look onto the front, then slumped into the bowl shape. The finished piece is 26cm in diameter x 7cm deep. After an unfortunate accident that broke the bowl in two, it was repaired using the modern “Kintsugi” method using glue and gold mica.
