Item details
This silver brooch is inspired by an exhibition I saw at Tate Modern, showing the works of Cecilia Vicuña. She was focusing on Quipos, a communication system created 5000 years ago by people in the Andes. My brooch is imagining a secret language communicated through the texture, shape and positioning of how you wear the brooch.

Full description
Send out hidden messages with this beautiful brooch, made by hand from recycled silver. It has a wavy, sculptural form and an interesting, intricate, patterned and crinkled texture.
Inspired after a visit to Tate Modern in London, I liked the idea that we could communicate via our jewellery - from the position we wear it, to the fact that the texture of it could be a way of sending messages to those who speak our language.
This lightweight brooch has been gently polished to give it a little shine and is fastened by a steel pin.
Length: 8.3 cms, width at the widest point: 3 cms
Designed by Shirley Nelson in London
