Item details

I have some beautiful natural pearls that I have enjoyed stringing in the traditional way, They are becoming quite rare as pearls are X-rayed and a nucleus is added if the original one was rejected. I have some German Claspgarten clasps that are made in rhodium plated silver or gold and use Swarovski pearls and crystals. Is is enjoyable joining the best items to make a unique piece of jewellery.

Full description

A Genuine Keshi Pearl 18 inch Necklace. These Luxurious and Highly Lustrous Keshi Pearls, are traditionally strung and knotted on silk thread. A crystal barrel push clasp made by Claspgarten adds a luxury and elegance to this necklace.

The clasp can be worn at the back or front.

“Keshi” is a Japanese term which means poppy seeds. A Keshi pearl is a non-beaded pearl which is formed by accident when the oyster rejects and spits out the implanted nucleus before the culturing process is complete. They are generally small and their shapes vary widely. Due to their solid nacre composition, they tend to have a high lustre.

This necklace has been hand knotted between each pearl. Pearls are delicate and the knot stops them rubbing together. If the string breaks you only loose 1 pearl and knotting makes the necklace flexible and it moves well.
