Lino printmaking is a completely hand made process, giving the final artwork a character and authenticity completely unlike a digital reproduction. From hand carving the relief printing block, to the hand burnishing of the final print, it’s quite a special moment to pull back the paper of that first print. All artwork is produced in it’s original medium, signed by the artist and will feature variations and signs of the nature of this process.

Inspired by my own growing collections of vintage Brown Betties and old fashioned Kitchenalia. Reminiscent of kitchen tables, tea and cakes, familiarity and cosy home comforts.

Nostalgic Vintage Brown Betty Teapot linoprint study in Classic Printmakers Black
An homage to the Brown Betty Teapot which tells an interesting tale of British manufacturing and ordinary domestic life. Made from a particular red clay (to keep the heat in) and manufactured in the Midlands, the heart of ‘making’, Brown Betties sat on kitchen tables up and down Britain without fanfare or celebration. Just doing their job, utilitarian in design yet being at the heart of everyday life, quietly becoming a vintage classic.
I'm as fascinated by the teapot’s history as I am by those simple brown glazes that hint towards buttered toast, cakes, crumpets, teacakes and other scrummy things to eat. A symbol of that warm and, perhaps rose tinted, cosy family life.
