I had painted a lavender watercolour background and wanted something that would contrast well with this lovely pastel colour. I had found a relevant quote "Dogs have owners and cats have staff" I had found a few pieces of fossilised coral on a local beach that I though might make an ideal cats body. I chose a piece that was perfect for a tabby cat and found a piece of mottled quartz that was a good match for the cats head. I sat my pebble cat on a piece of driftwood that I had collected from a local North East Beach after a storm. I have always had a pet cat or two and I think the quote describes the personality of cats, if they want attention or affection, it is on their terms, they are very independent creatures.
