NEW: Hand stitched Sami Reindeer and Fish leather bags and pouches.
Reindeer leather is a precious commodity that is difficult to source. Most of the reindeer hides are used by the Saami people for their own clothing and personal use. I am only able to purchase the reindeer leather in small quantities that are sold as scrap leather. I stitch the small pieces together in order to make purses, pouches, reindeer bracelets and other items. Nothing is wasted.
The fish leather is made from fish skin waste that is usually discarded. The skins have been tanned and softened using natural methods. Once Fish skins have been tanned properly, the leather becomes soft and pliable - and feels much like a soft suede leather. S

Full description
A hand stitched coin purse with a zipper. The coin purse was made with Reindeer Leather and Tilapia Fish Leather.
Approx. Size 13 cm x 8 cm
Beige Tilapia Fish Leather
Reindeer Leather - Alder Brown
Edge seam of the pouch - Wool Vadmal
Zipper Closure
The hand stitched purses are slightly irregular in shape due to the natural shape of the Fish skin and scales.
I like to use Wool Vadmal (a type of felted wool cloth) between the stitched layers of the bags. This helps to secure the edges and to fill in the holes created by the use of a leather sewing needle.
