The hare is considered a sacred animal in many cultures across the world. It will come as no surprise that it is associated with fertility, but beyond that, the hare symbolises motherhood, nurture, growth and new beginnings. In Celtic mythology, the hare was thought of as a mystical and magical being, linked to the supernatural, transformation and the energies of the moon.

Easdale slate with its pyrite inclusions brings to mind a starry night sky, so I thought it would make the perfect backdrop for a moon gazing hare.

Full description

Handmade from scratch in recycled sterling silver, one side of the pendant has a hare looking up at a moon made from reticulated silver, with Eadsale slate representing the night sky and pyrite suggesting the stars. The other side displays this natural Scottish stone in a slightly hammered bezel. The bale is stamped with tiny stars and the metal has been oxidised to add definition and character.

With slate carrying connotations of wisdom and resilience, and pyrite associated with luck and success, this would make a meaningful gift for a loved one. I like to think of it as the Scottish version of lapis lazuli, and as such it translates as a particularly fitting gift for an April or Taurus birthday.

You can read the booklet that comes with my Hebridean Slate designs in the images.

Approximate dimensions – the pendant is about 14mm in width and 25mm overall length, of which the bale is around 7mm. The chain is 1.5mm curb in your chosen length.

The stone in this pendant rocks very slightly in the bezel because it is not completely flat on the back. For this reason I have added it to bargain corner.

The last image in this listing shows the pendant charging on my garden altar, under the full moon.
