As both my smalls grew we found as a family it was important to recognise and share our mood or emotions. We wanted a quick, easy and aesthetically pleasing way of doing it. I originally created an emotion chart for each of my boys which are framed and hung at an appropriate height in our kitchen. Every morning the boys let us know by marking on the frame with a glass marker which emotion best fits how they are feeling - sometimes it is more than one. Sometimes, even when they don't know the word they recognise the feeling by the face. This gives them the confidence to gain an understanding of different emotions and feel in control of them. As parents it gives us a gauge to how they may be feeling and to act accordingly - we also use the charts to show how we are feeling.
