Memory quilts for dementia patients are custom-made for each individual. They feature 25 squares, each with different textures or activities to stimulate memory and encourage discussion. These include buttons, buckles, zips, laces, and toggles, as well as a variety of textures such as wool, fur, and cotton. The quilts can incorporate photos of the patient's family or places of interest. The front fabrics, which may vary, are chosen to evoke memories with information provided by the customer. When our knitting group was asked make 'fiddle muffs' I did not like them and developed the quilted version which can be made to much more individual needs. I also visit several care homes and see patients who would benefit from these individual quilts.
