Mother of Pearl is the name given to the lining or nacre of mollusc shells.
It is a unique combination of minerals secreted by molluscs such as oysters into thin platelets of calcium carbonate that have a width similar to light waves, which gives the nacre an iridescent, shimmering sheen.
Like Pearl, it is a birthstone for June and a popular choice for wedding jewellery.

Dainty and beautiful necklace featuring an 8x4mm Mother-of-Pearl focal bead in the shape of a rose, set between Mother-of-Pearl 8mm barrel beads graduating to 4mm round beads.
The rose is exquisitely detailed on both sides of the bead, has a delicate, creamy white colour and excellent lustre, which is matched by the oval and round beads.
I have embellished with a few tiny 2mm gold vermeil beads which enhance the sheen without detracting from the purity and simplicity of the piece.
The fastener is a simple gold vermeil toggle clasp.
Gold vermeil is sterling silver with a thick 18k gold plate - a much higher quality material, with greater durability, than standard gold-plated metal.
The clasp is stamped '925'.
This elegant necklace measures approximately 16.5 inches (42cm). I am generally able to resize on request, subject to supplies availability - contact me via the 'contact' button below my shop banner.
Your necklace will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a pretty organza gift bag.
