My mother's garden in India usually has periwinkle growing like weeds. Most people find these flowers a nuisance - they can spread quickly and take over multiple pots in a terrace garden. I always found something comforting about their ability to grow anywhere. This cyanotype was made from fallen periwinkle and leaves pressed in a book, that I carried to London with me. The form of the wrinkling flowers as they dry on the ground are often overlooked; I wanted to commemorate them, along with centella leaves, that are medicinal herbs that also grow wild in my hometown.

Original cyanotype, around A6 on Canson watercolour paper. Cyanotypes are also called sunprints, because in the process, paper is coated with a photosensitive chemical and exposed to sunlight with a negative on it.
