Coptic binding is an ancient form of bookbinding, dating back to the 2nd century AD.

Coptic bindings are characterized by sections of paper sewn through their folds and attached to each other with chain stitch linkings across the spine of the book. Traditionally, hand bound books have seven signatures, or sections, and that is how many I use.

The cartridge paper for the pages is recycled, mostly from old paper cups, and it’s all hand torn or cut to size. The paper is 140gsm and because it is recycled, it has a slight texture, which makes it perfect for journaling or sketching. I always write with a fountain pen and the paper is wonderful for that.

The covers are original cyanotype prints, which is an Eco-friendly art form.

Nature provides the subjects in abundance; and I use the sun to develop the prints … as an energy source, you can’t get more sustainable than that!

It really is Earth-friendly stationery!

This book is unique and made entirely by hand.

Full description

I created this gorgeous journal because I believe your words are worth it!

I love to experiment with different papers when I am creating cyanotype prints. And this paper is a whole new experience for me. It's .... wait for it ... teabag paper ... which is very fine, but also strong. Tea bag paper is actually designed to be strong when it’s wet, so it’s perfect for cyanotype prints.

This print features Cosmos flowers from my garden.

I used a sprinkling of gold ink to add a little bit of bling!

It's a bit tricky to turn the prints into book covers, because although it’s strong, the paper is also very fine. So, I backed it with some lovely Indian Cotton Rag paper. The inside covers are Nepalese Lokta paper in an airmail blue.

The book is stitched together with blue waxed cotton thread.

I used Coptic stitching to bind the book together. Coptic binding means that the book will lie completely flat when opened, which makes it perfect for journaling or sketching.

I used cyanotype spine wraps for this journal, so it looks lovely when it’s standing on your shelf. This is not just a unique journal, it’s a work of art.

This gorgeous journal would be the perfect gift for any woman … for her birthday, for Christmas, or just because she deserves it!

I offer all these perks with ALL of my hand bound journals ...

- free gift wrapping

- one of a kind

- eco-conscious gift

- can send direct to recipient
