This particular painting is based on a bank of cloud that was being backlit after some heavy rain on the way home from the shops. The stark blue, with the yellow ground showing through, adds more warmth and depth to the painting. I was really pleased with how it came out.

Full description
I love painting clouds. It was something that sprang out of the lockdowns. All this being enclosed and inside. Just wanting to be outdoors and in the open, to be able to be outside and breathe.
Also being brought up in Lincolnshire the sky (80%) was always a large part of what you were looking at when you looked out the window or were outside. So I have quite an extensive library of cloud pictures on which to draw. I want to create the feeling of there being depth to the image as well as trying to use the light to create a realistic but painterly feel to the picture. To have a bit of character to it.
This picture is painted on gesso primed hardboard with a yellow ochre ground which shows through the paint. It is supplied unframed. An original in oil colours.
