Full description
This book cover can be used on any A4 notebook or diary and has a bookmark included.
It has been created using a hand dyed rust dyeing process then hand embroidered.
This dyeing process works best on natural fibres, I always use cotton fabric that has been washed to remove any dressing and no fabric conditioner. Once dry and ironed it is sprayed with a solution of 50/50 water and white vinegar before arranging any rusty metal objects, folding and layering more metal objects and giving the whole thing another good spray so that all the surfaces are wet and in contact with the solution.
You can check the results after a few hours or leave it for several days until the desired effects are achieved.
Once happy with the patterns created on the cotton fabric it is thoroughly washed and left to soak in a salt water solution which fixes the rust patterns and stops them from working any further.
The fabric can then be used to make any number of things such as Tote Bags and Book Covers which can then be hand washed as normal.
The patterns created guide you to what stitches to use and where to enhance the piece.
I mainly use Chain and Feather stitches but depending on the piece I also use Blanket and Running Stitches, French Knots and Spider Wheel Filling.
