The pendant was made by hand in India . Malachite has a fascinating history dating back to ancient Egypt around 4,000 BC. The Egyptians used malachite as an ornamental stone in jewelry. Archeologists have found Egyptian tomb paintings using malachite gemstones that had been ground into paint that colored the walls. It was also ground into a fine dust and mixed with galena, a thick paste used to make kohl.

Malachite also played an important role in European paintings during the Renaissance period of the 15th and 16th centuries as a pigment for paints and dyes. It is believed that many of the green colors found in Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel painting were painted with malachite.

It was the Russian dynasty, the Romanovs though who really loved malachite and included entire rooms clad in this stone in two palaces. This fascinating history and the beauty of this green stone inspired me to design this piece.

Full description

A stunning statement necklace featuring a quirky unique copper wire and malachite pendant flanked by aventurine, copper and Tibetan silver beads. Malachite derives its beautiful green colour from its copper content which is why I chose copper beads to enhance the green colour of the pendant. This listing includes a matching bracelet featuring a large central decorative copper bead with similar aventurine, silver and copper beads and two small charms - a silver om and a copper labyrinth.

The necklace is approximately 43 cm long and the bracelet is 20 cm. These can be extended, free of charge, if required. You are also welcome to choose an additional/ replacement charm, for the bracelet, also free of charge (see photo for choice)

At CerrigJewellery each piece I make is an original design so you can be assured that if you choose a piece of jewellery from my shop you will be expressing your individual personality in unique style. Alternatively, to give malachite as a gift signifies loyalty and friendship.

Your chosen piece of jewellery will be wrapped in tissue paper in a gift bag and sent via Royal Mail, first class, signed for.
