The book is bound with Teal coloured Irish Linen waxed thread. This is the best kind of thread to use for bookbinding, I find, because it doesn’t stretch. This means that the book stays firmly bound, no matter how often you open and close it ... I know this for a fact … I use my journal every single day!
I used Coptic stitching to bind the book together. Coptic binding means that the book will lie completely flat when opened, which makes it perfect for journaling or sketching.
Coptic binding is an ancient form of bookbinding, and when the journal is standing on your shelf, you can see the lovely linking stitches across the spine. This is so much more than just a journal, it’s a work of art.
The cartridge paper for the pages is recycled, and it’s all hand torn or cut to size. The paper is 140gsm and because it is recycled, it has a slight texture, which makes it perfect for journaling or sketching.
So, it really is Earth-friendly all the way!
This book is unique and made by hans.

Full description
I created this gorgeous journal because I believe your words are worth it!
8” by 10” is such a wonderful size for a journal … as wide as A4, but not quite so tall.
The covers for this pretty floral journal were made using original cyanotype prints.
Cyanotype Printing is such a wonderfully Eco-friendly artform.
The subjects for my artwork are wildflowers or flowers from my garden, which Nature produces for me in abundance!
I use the sun to develop the prints … as an energy source, you don’t get more sustainable than that!
The covers feature Wiltshire wildflowers, gathered from the hedgerows around my lovely home.
There are Ox-eye Daisies, Wild Mallows and Umbelliferae.
I used Rose Cyclamen ink, which is just the loveliest pink; and Winsor & Newton Gold Ink gives a touch of bling! I also used some Raspberry red dye and some coarse sea salt in the wet cyanotype developing process; the salt gives a wonderful crystalising effect.
To create the cover prints, I used Fabriano Tiziano art paper in a lovely subtle pink colour called Rosa; it’s a lovely base for cyanotype printing.
The inside covers are made using handmade Nepalese Lokta paper, in a lovely Airmail blue.
This gorgeous, floral journal would be the perfect gift for any woman … for her birthday, for Christmas, or just because she deserves it!
