Sodalite is a blue mineral that was only discovered in the early 1800's.
It is a sodium silicate containing aluminium and chlorine.
It is thought to help stabilise the emotions, bringing calm and promoting rational thought.
On a visit to Canada in 1901 the Prince and Princess of Wales, later King George V and Queen Mary, were shown Sodalite from a newly discovered mine. Mary fell in love with the stone and had 130 tons shipped to the UK.
