An exploration of craft skills, in this case wood carving and wood turning....I particulary like the way the faces are off centre... this was dictated by the wood grain as the carving unfolded... and I love the bark looking so georgeous... the wood worm holes, the spalting, the shakes, mother nature is marveous...it was treated with ronseal woodworm treatment before I started carving and no new worm holes have started since I sealed it with varnish and wax...it is a unique peice....an "objet d'art"....but beauty is in the eye of the beholder....

Full description

I found a lovely spalted and worm eaten log in the wood pile. After treating it with woodworm stuff, I enjoyed carving it.... (I don't think my clumsy carving skills do the piece justice...but hey ho!)...To me this is a celebration of mother nature...the splits in the timber (Shakes, I think they are called),,,the wood worm holes (now filled with sawdust and linseed oil, which is the finished that has hardened up the timber as well as bringing out the grain). The bark on the upright, the round turned simple base...it is a lovely piece. When used as a table lamp the shadows enhance the features and I loved turning it round to view different aspects periodically. It is second hand, as I used it for months. As I am not an electrician I will remove the plug and the buyer will have to get a competent person to ensure it is ok to put the plug on...I would recommend a pat test, which we used to to do with a special machine at the school I taught at... the electrics are all good quality from B&Q and I have tested it with a mega and used it for a few months, so I am happy it is well put together an d safe....but I am not a qualified PAT tester.... hence I will remove the plug...
