To make a third layer for this necklace take a look at the 18" necklace which will match beautifully with this and was made with this idea in mind -
Jasper comes in a large variety of colours and varieties are found all over the world. The name Jasper means spotted or speckled stone and is derived from the Latin iaspidem, or the Old French jaspre. The speckles are caused by the inclusion of mineral, ash, or sediment within the structure of the gemstone.
Opalite is a trade name for man-made opalescent glass and various opal and moonstone simulants. Opalite gives a glow that reflects on the skin when in normal daylight.
