My Grandfather served in the First World War. He fought in Ypres, The Somme and Passchendaele. He was one of the fortunate ones – he returned home to his family.
A couple of years ago we went on a family ‘road-trip’ around the areas in which he fought, and with the help of a couple of very knowledgeable local guides, and copies of the War Diaries for the battalion, we found out a great deal more about the conditions under which he served. We walked across fields through which he would have fought. We visited graveyards for both sides of the conflict. There were also so many unnamed graves and markers for men who could not be found. There were no winners.
I now understand a little more why he would not talk about what went on.
We should never forget the sacrifice that people are willing to make for the benefit of others. Whether they be in the Armed Forces or are in the ‘Front Line’ of our current conflict with Covid-19,

We have a series of Fused Glass Poppies in a selection of colours. This one is a yellow poppy. Yellow poppies symbolize renewal, optimism, and looking at the bright side of situations.
For each poppy sold we will donate £2.50 to the Royal British Legion to help fund their support for service personnel and their families.
Each poppy is approximately 9 cm across and hangs from a length of chain.
Each poppy is made from 4 hand-cut pieces of glass which are assembled with a pre-fused glass dot and glass rods to make the patterns. A 12-hour program of heating and cooling fuses the glass together after which we drill a hole and fit a bail and the chain.
Please note that the colour of the lines on your poppy may vary from those shown in the pictures.
The poppies are weather-proof and look great in the garden where they reflect the light. They also look great in a window.
As each poppy is made from hand-cut glass we will never make them the same.
All of our Fused Glass Goodies are made with love and care at our studio in Shropshire
The final photograph shows some of the other colours we have available.
