Item details

My lovely neighbours, who are in their 80s, gave me a bag of sixpences a few years ago when I started making jewellery. The money I make on these items goes back to them.

The ‘lucky’ sixpence idea comes from servicemen in WW2 sewing them into the lining of their uniforms for luck. Who knows, some of these are old enough to have been the very ones used!

The range of dates is from 1919- 1951, so the design is different according to the year and the monarch. I have good coverage within that range, but not every year, unfortunately. Over time, the silver content lessened and finally sixpences were phased out. They are vintage items, so their wear and tear is commensurate with their age. They have been sympathetically cleaned to keep their charm.
