Welcome to Desk of Plenty
I offer FREE UK POSTAGE throughout my shop and all pieces come with a gift box or gift envelope, in recyclable and compostable packaging.
I became interested in natural colour when I procured my first allotment six years ago.
It's such a rich subject and craft with a long, fascinating and sometimes troubled history.
And using natural colours is addictive!
This is a custom-made item and cannot be returned unless faulty.
Please note that if your order is being posted outside mainland UK, you (or the recipient) may have to pay customs or VAT charges and a handling fee. The seller is not responsible for any charges or fees that may incur.
Full description
40 oak galls for making natural ink and dye, consciously foraged. Enough for one large dye vat or four small jars of ink.
Crush the galls to a powder and mix with a little hot water to make a gold ink, or add iron sulphate to make midnight blue. Crush and boil galls in a saucepan of water to make a natural golden dye, again adding iron sulphate to darken the colour to a rich black/blue.
Oak galls are an old source of colour, very high in tannin and have been used since the Middle Ages. It is incredibly resistant to fading and was used in the notebooks of Leonardo Da Vinci and for the U.S Declaration of Independence.
If you have any questions about using the galls please drop me a message and I'll be happy to help.
Not supplied with iron sulphate.
