Beautifully illustrated miniature letter 'J', 50 mm w x 75 mm h, incorporating the image of a bird based on a Swallow, executed in watercolour and gouache on Bockingford hot pressed watercolour paper. This image is one of many that I will produce using calligraphic and constructed letters with images incorporating various subjects and media. I prefer to keep the images as spontaneous as possible, simply enjoying colours, shapes and texture rather than producing photo realist images. Watching the birds in the garden in the Spring triggered the idea of starting with birds, particularly when they are caught in 'movement', dramatic and beautiful.
The watercolour paper is a beautiful soft white.
Miniatures and small works are presented in a custom made window card folder made from watercolour paper with my initials to the front and a calligraphic complimentary slip. All the work is hand lettered and colours will vary.
