The Lucienne Collection is named after the textile designer Lucienne Day whose work in the 1950s influenced a wide area of design. Her textile ‘Calyx’ was created for the Festival of Britain in 1951 and is still much admired today. She explored many design sources, but my Lucienne Day favourites, such as Calyx, are from the natural world. My own designs feature a nod to cow parsley, seeds, marsh grass, vine tendrils, plough furrows and field fencing.

A distinctive handmade bowl (named Lettie) for your living room, hall or bedroom. This lovely bowl is perfect for displaying small fruits, pot pourri, shells, pebbles and seashore finds, lavender, fir cones, or simply a place to pop your keys when you come in! Alternatively, it makes a good flat based bowl in which to stand a houseplant. I shaped the bowl from black stoneware clay, using the coiling technique, one of the earliest forms of pottery making. It has a flat base, straight sides and a gently flaring irregular wave-like rim. Inside I used two glazes – a tenmoku on the base mingling with a dark green on the rim and sides, which fired to a lovely finish of natural shades. On the outside I used a pale lemon band, and incised a decorative seedhead motif to expose the black clay beneath, leaving the matt surface of the natural clay, a technique known as sgraffito. The size is 16cms diameter and approx. 6 cms high – the fruits shown in one of the images are tangerines to give you an idea of scale. This is a decorative display bowl and is not intended for cooking/oven use.
