I have always been fascinated by mermaids & wanted to create one of my own. I enjoy trying out new techniques and in this piece of art I have incorporated stump work to give her tail the 3D effect.

Full description
This picture depicts an alluring mermaid holding her golden mirror and scallop shell, ready to cast a spell on you. The mermaid's tail has been created using 'stump work' to give it a 3D effect & then hand embroidered with green & turquoise thread, interspersed with metallic threads. Her body is made from linen and her hair has been made with embroidery cotton, curled around a pencil to give it form. The background of sea and her thrown have been needle felted & there are small pearl sequins embellishing the thrown. She has a little belt around her stomach made from re-cycled sari silk. The picture measures 14cm x 14 cm & has been surrounded with picture mount to create a total picture size of 26cm x 26 cm. The back of the picture is lined with natural linen. You could hang the picture as is or frame it further in a frame of your own choice.
