Re-purposed, re-imagined
Jewellery and objects made by award winning eco-artist, jeweller - Alison Bailey Smith, based in Wellington Road Studios, unit 2, 28a Wellington Road, Birkenhead, CH43 2JE

Made in Wirral by me, Alison Bailey Smith. I trained as a jeweller in Edinburgh in the 80s and 90s and have been recycling since then, in different places all round the world. I am now back in the UK and recently acquired wires from lots of old televisions so am having great fun with new colours. My work is definitely a by-product of the 21st century & I have been described as a 'techno -cannibal' by BBC journalist Clare English. My career has spanned 3 decades and three different countries since leaving Edinburgh College of Art in 1990. The motivation behind my work comes from being the child of post war parents, Scottish thriftiness and an avid watcher of Blue Peter ( I do have the badge!0! I am keen to re-use, re-develop and re-create in my home and in my business.

BBC5/22 - 22 cm long

Full description

Heart and button adjustable bracelet from recycled materials made by me, Alison Bailey Smith in Wirral in the North West of England. The heart is made from a repurposed red exercise ball donated for a larger recent project. The bracelet is light and colourful, joyful rainbow colours. Created by hand using recycled materials. Large lobster claw makes it easier to attach into any of the links providing a better fit.

I have just completed a large collection of sculptures - using lots of different materials to create 9 large flowers for parks and schools in Wirral. The materials gathered for the flowers has opened my eyes to new possibilities including the amazing qualities of rubber - colour, shiny and squidge factor! Love the new colour it offers and how it sets off the colours of the lacquered copper wire - both recycled (golden) and bought (acid green and teal).

The bracelet is supplied with a branded card with recycled envelope, again in eye-popping colours.

Outer packaging provided is always reused, recycled or using up an old stash from a large business that has scaled back. Free postage within United Kingdom, I do not ship outside of UK for environmental reasons, in keeping with the ethos of my way of working.

I would be delighted if these were worn or given with pride and joy.
